Sept 18th - Gaga gets head tattooed in front of an audience to launch new perfume. CELEBRITIES will go to great lengths to promote their new products, but tattooing your skull live onstage might be one of the strangest yet.
During a live show in New York to launch her new perfume, Fame, the superstar had a tattoo artist ink a design on the back of her head in front of a watching audience. Gaga opted for a cherub with angel's wings on the back of her newly shaved skull, after her part of her hair was razored off as a tribute to her friend, Terry Richardson's late mother.

Sept 18th - For the third year in a row, the Society of the Seven Crowns Tattoo presented their annual charity art show. This years the theme was "Cautionary Tales: Fables, Fairy Tales and Folklore". Tattoo artists from throughout Canada submitted art to be auctioned off to a charitable cause. That cause you ask? The Art city St. James Town charity that is. A not-for-profit organization that provides an after school art program for children that live in the most densely populated community in Canada. Seven Crowns and the artists raised over 5,700.00 for this worthwhile cause. 

Other years have seen the crowds entertained by bands, circus performers and acrobats. There was a pretty decent spread to satisfy our palettes too. This years holds theme was reserved for the eyes of those who dare delve into the word of history and folklore. What a great job the artists did embracing the world of fairytales.

Once again Pascal Richard, Pierre from Tattoo Mania and their crew hosted a world class tattoo event at Gare Windsor in the heart of Montreal. I arrived late on Wednesday to join with Kurt Wiscombe in do some site seeing and tour old Montreal on Thursday morning. We also drop by PSC Tattoo to see Dave Knight and crew as well watch Evan Dowdell get tattooed. We then toured up to Tattoo Mania for the Art show opening by Turf 1, a great artist and super nice guy. Many great artists like Tin Tin from Paris and Henning Jorgensen from Copenhagen joined the party so it was good to see old friends and some new ones too. The friday opened to a huge line up of collectors and fans and we spent the weekend watching the crowd get larger all the time. saturday was a human traffic jam of tattoo collectors and from what I understand it was a record crowd. Montreal is always a fun time and late dinners makes for late nights and we never seemed to get back to the hotel until about 4 am.

Tatau artists are giving gallery-goers a unique piece of Samoan culture. Sui faiga ae tumau fa'avae is an active exhibition at City Gallery featuring tattoo artists Tuigamala Andy Tauafiafi, Ismael Jaco ''J'' Augustine Schmidt and Bryan ''Juse One'' Visala. Unique Samoan designs are created and tattooed live in the gallery space, opening up the art to a wider public.

Aug 27th - Book Review - The Woodcut Portraits By Alex Binnie.

Alex Binnie has been a well known fixture on the London tattoo scene since he opened "Into You" one of the first custom tattoo shops in the early 90's.
The book is a record of the 32 portraits in chronological order as the were carved and the prints were hand done by Alex on a Columbian press from London circa, 1844.

Aug 20th - What the Hell is going on with Civil Liberties in New South Wales, Australia. Tattooing it seems, and those that play the trade are all being painted with the same brush in the eyes of the law.

Under the pretense of Licensing for tattoo studios, they have enacted legislation to search tattoo studios without due cause or search warrants and have people that work in the studios finger printed. Then, shortly after it is passed police raid shops with explosive and drug sniffing dogs.

As if all that wasn't enough, they now want to ban police for showing visible tattoos when in uniform. Read on...

The Passing Of A True Showman -

The tattoo world has grown in many ways both positive and negative. It has been the dedication of pioneers such as our dear friend Billy Eason who have committed their lives to the betterment of an industry they have loved wholeheartedly. Billy was a man with standards, standards which he demanded be met. I will never forget first meeting Billy, I was just a young artist trying to make my mark on the industry and with much intimidation approached Billy for a booth at his convention. My nerves were met with a relic, a man whose 'shoot from the hip, take no prisoners` old school persona did not disappoint. A larger than life personality. I came to dearly love and respect, for as rough as his exterior may have seemed he truly was the most caring and down to earth tattoo cat I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Billy was a true showman and was passionate about the art and the personalities surrounding it. I always looked at him as the head of the family and loved him dearly, as so many of us did. Take a bow Billy. You made it all count and will be remembered for your passion and the love and devotion you showed us and the tattoo industry as a whole. You will forever be missed. - Joe Johns.

Billy's service yesterday was sad, but I heard a lot of great stories. And in true pimp fashion, he was carried out by strippers and rap music! The tattoo industry lost a great one. He had a heart of gold.

Sep 20th - Robert Bartleh Cummings (AKA, Rob Zombie) is bored. A Tattooed rocker, musician, director, screenwriter, producer and artist and he is fucking bored. "It's such a funny phrase, but I often end up saying, 'Jesus Christ, everything is so fucking boring," laughs Zombie. "When I'm flipping TV channels or doing anything, I find myself saying that a lot. I thought, 'Alright, I'll make a song out of it.'" It was part of the inspiration behind his new track "Everything is Boring" to be released next week, but you can check it out first online.

"Highway to Hell" Art Show at the Toronto Hilton in Governor Generals suite. The Art show is separate from the convention and FREE to the public all weekend. The "Highway to Hell Art Show" will be original works of arts and prints available from top international tattoo artists in a gallery and lounge setting with a live DJ and entertainment provided by the Healing Hearts Heavy Metal Swimsuit Team.

Custom Painted Skate Decks Charity Auction. Dozens of custom painted skatedecks will also go on display to be auctioned off for the Skate 4 Cancer Charity. These skate decks are all one of a kind, hand painted originals from dozens of the top tattoo artists from around the world that are attending the NIX Tattoo Festival. They will be creating their custom decks in keeping with the theme of the one time "Highway to Hell Art Show" opening NIX 2010 The Skate 4 Cancer charity auction will be curated by the incurable Lauren Wilson.
